The Illusion of the World and the Vision of Truth
લોકવગ્ગો આપણને દુનિયાની ભ્રમણાઓમાંથી જાગૃત થવાનું શીખવે છે. તે અંધકારમય દુનિયામાં ફસાયેલા લોકો અને સત્ય જોઈને મુક્ત થતા જ્ઞાનીઓ વચ્ચેનો તફાવત સ્પષ્ટ કરે છે.
हीनं धम्मं न सेवेय्य, पमादेन न संवसे।
मिच्छादिट्ठिं न सेवेय्य, न सिया लोकवड्ढनो॥
નીચ (હલકી) જીવનશૈલી ન અપનાવવી, બેદરકારીથી ન જીવવું; મિથ્યા દ્રષ્ટિ (ખોટી માન્યતા) ન અપનાવવી, અને દુનિયામાં આસક્ત ન થવું.
One should not pursue a base [inferior, low] way of life [principles, practices], nor should one live with negligence [carelessly]; One should not embrace a wrong view [distorted perception], and one should not indulge in the world [attached to the world].
उत्तिट्ठे नप्पमज्जेय्य, धम्मं सुचरितं चरे।
धम्मचारी सुखं सेति, अस्मिं लोके परम्हि च॥
ઊઠો અને બેદરકાર ન રહો, ધર્મ અને સદાચાર મુજબ જીવો; ધર્મનું આચરણ કરનાર આ લોક અને પરલોકમાં સુખેથી (આરામથી) રહે છે.
One should rise up and not be negligent, One should live in accordance with the Dhamma [teachings of the Buddha], with good conduct; For living by the Dhamma, one sleeps with ease [contentment], both in this world and the next.
धम्मं चरे सुचरितं, न नं दुच्चरितं चरे।
धम्मचारी सुखं सेति, अस्मिं लोके परम्हि च॥
ધર્મ અને સદાચાર મુજબ જીવો, દુરાચારથી (ખરાબ આચરણથી) ન જીવો; ધર્મનું આચરણ કરનાર આ લોક અને પરલોકમાં સુખેથી રહે છે.
One should live in accordance with the Dhamma, with good conduct, and not live with unwholesome conduct [misbehavior]; Living in accordance with the Dhamma, one rests in ease, both in this world and the next.
यथा बुब्बुळकं पस्से, यथा पस्से मरीचिकं।
एवं लोकं अवेक्खन्तं, मच्चुराजा न पस्सति॥
જેમ કોઈ પરપોટાને જુએ, જેમ કોઈ મૃગજળને (ભ્રમણાને) જુએ; દુનિયાને આ રીતે જોનારને, મૃત્યુરાજ જોઈ શકતા નથી.
As one would see a bubble, as one would see an illusion [mirage]; One who regards [sees, views] the world in this way, is not seen by the Lord of Death.
एथ पस्सथिमं लोकं, चित्तं राजरथूपमं।
यत्थ बाला विसीदन्ति, नत्थि सङ्गो विजानतं॥
આવો, રાજાના રથ જેવી શણગારેલી આ દુનિયાને જુઓ; જ્યાં અપરિપક્વ (અજ્ઞાની) લોકો આસક્તિમાં ડૂબી જાય છે, પરંતુ સમજનાર લોકો અનાસક્ત (મુક્ત) રહે છે.
Come, see this world, adorned like a royal chariot; Here, the immature sink [in attachment, flounder], but those who understand [discern] remain unbound.
यो च पुब्बे पमज्जित्वा, पच्छा सो नप्पमज्जति।
सोमं लोकं पभासेति, अब्भा मुत्तोव चन्दिमा॥
જે પહેલાં બેદરકાર હતો, પરંતુ પછી બેદરકાર રહેતો નથી; તે આ દુનિયાને પ્રકાશિત કરે છે, જેમ વાદળોમાંથી મુક્ત થયેલો ચંદ્ર.
One who, having been negligent before, is no longer negligent afterward; Illuminates [brightens] the world, like the moon freed from clouds.
यस्स पापं कतं कम्मं, कुसलेन पिधीयति।
सोमं लोकं पभासेति, अब्भा मुत्तोव चन्दिमा॥
જેનાં ખોટાં કર્મો (પાપકર્મો), કુશળ (સારા, લાભદાયક) કર્મો દ્વારા ઢંકાઈ જાય છે (દૂર થઈ જાય છે); તે વ્યક્તિ આ દુનિયાને પ્રકાશિત કરે છે, જેમ વાદળોમાંથી મુક્ત થયેલો ચંદ્ર.
For one whose wrongdoing [censurable deed], is superseded [supplanted] by wholesome [beneficial] deeds; That person illuminates the world, like the moon freed from clouds.
अन्धभूतो अयं लोको, तनूकेत्थ विपस्सति।
सकुणी जालमुत्तोव, अप्पो सग्गाय गच्छति॥
આ દુનિયા અંધ છે (વાસ્તવિકતાથી અજાણ છે), અહીં બહુ ઓછા લોકો સ્પષ્ટપણે જુએ છે (સમજે છે); જાળમાંથી મુક્ત થયેલા પક્ષીની જેમ, બહુ ઓછા લોકો સ્વર્ગમાં જાય છે.
This world is blind [ignorant of true nature], only a few here see clearly [understand with insight]; Like a bird freed from the net [escaped from snare], only a few reach heaven.
हंसादिच्चपथे यन्ति, आकासे यन्ति इद्धिया।
नीयन्ति धीरा लोकम्हा, जेत्वा मारं सवाहिनीं॥
હંસ સૂર્યના માર્ગે જાય છે, તેઓ પોતાના ઇદ્ધિબળથી આકાશમાં ઉડે છે; ધીર (જ્ઞાની) લોકો આ લોકમાંથી મુક્ત થાય છે, માર અને તેની સેનાને જીતીને.
Swans [representing sages] travel the pathway of the sun, they move through the sky with their psychic powers [supernormal abilities]; The steadfast [intelligent, wise] are emancipated from the world, having conquered Māra [embodiment of forces keeping beings in rebirth] and his army.
एकं धम्मं अतीतस्स, मुसावादिस्स जन्तुनो।
वितिण्णपरलोकस्स, नत्थि पापं अकारियं॥
જે વ્યક્તિ એક સિદ્ધાંતનો ભંગ કરે છે, જે ખોટું (જૂઠું) બોલે છે; જે પરલોકની (મૃત્યુ પછીના જીવનની) અવગણના કરે છે, તેના માટે એવું કોઈ પાપ નથી, જે કરવું અશક્ય હોય.
For one who has transgressed a single principle, a person who engages in false speech [lying]; Who has disregarded the afterlife [rejected the next world], there is no injurious action that is not do-able [impossible to do].
न वे कदरिया देवलोकं वजन्ति,
बाला हवे नप्पसंसन्ति दानं।
धीरो च दानं अनुमोदमानो,
तेनेव सो होति सुखी परत्थ॥
ખરેખર, કંજૂસ લોકો સ્વર્ગમાં જતા નથી, અપરિપક્વ (અજ્ઞાની) લોકો દાનની પ્રશંસા કરતા નથી; પરંતુ ધીર વ્યક્તિ દાનમાં આનંદ કરે છે, અને તેનાથી જ તે પરલોકમાં સુખ પામે છે.
Truly, the stingy do not go to the heaven, for immature persons do not praise giving; The wise one rejoices in giving, just by that he finds ease hereafter [afterwards, later].
पठब्या एकरज्जेन, सग्गस्स गमनेन वा।
सब्बलोकाधिपच्चेन, सोतापत्तिफलं वरं॥
સમગ્ર પૃથ્વી પર એકાધિપત્ય કરતાં, અથવા સ્વર્ગમાં જવા કરતાં; સર્વ લોક પર પ્રભુત્વ (આધિપત્ય) કરતાં પણ, સોતાપત્તિનું (જાગૃતિના પ્રવાહમાં પ્રવેશનું) ફળ શ્રેષ્ઠ છે.
Better than sole sovereignty over the earth, better than going to heaven; Better than lordship over all the worlds [rulership over the entire universe], is the fruit of entering the stream [stream-entry, first stage of enlightenment].
